The 2009 conference will be back at the place of our founding, California Baptist University. Cal Baptist is a lovely campus, just minutes from Los Angeles, Palm Springs, and the mountain communities of Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear. We are excited to be back at Cal Baptist although we will miss Azusa Pacific University's fabulous hospitality!
We are excited to have Dr. Ken Kavale as our keynote presenter for 2009. The Regent University website states the following about Dr. Kavale.
"Dr Kavale's research interests focus on learning disability, emotional and behavioral disorder, and special education policy. He has published over 200 books, chapters, and journal articles. Two books, The Science of Learning Disabilities and The Nature of Learning Disabilities, explored the scientific foundation of the specific learning disability category. A number of quantitative research syntheses (meta-analyses) were summarized in the monograph Efficacy of Special Education and Related Services published by the American Association on Mental Retardation. A publication (with Mark P. Mostert), The Positive Side of Special Education: Minimizing Its Fads, Fancies, and Follies, critically analyzes almost 100 years of special education intervention practices. Kavale has presented over 75 papers at local, national, and international conferences. He was invited to present a white paper on "Discrepancy models in the identification of learning disability" at the LD Summit Conference sponsored by the U.S. Office of Special Education Programs."
We are truly honored to have someone of Dr. Kavale's stature as our 2009 keynote presenter!
We were also looking forward to an excellent cadre of breakout sessions. If you are interested in being a presenter at the 2009 NACSPED conference, please visit the "call for papers" section of the website. We would love to entertain your proposal!

2005 NACSPED Conference... "Its time for something new!"
The conference was the inaugural meeting of NACSPED and was held at California Baptist University. It was a great time of celebration of the new organization, training in state of the art special education practices and thinking about the future. There were 17 presentations delivered by 21 presenters. Founding president Dr. Jeff McNair laid out his vision for the organization. He described three major foci for the organization. The first is best practices in special education and being a Christian special educator. The second is integration of persons with disability into the local church including issues of Christian theology and disability. The third focuses on parents as full partners in education and church inclusion. A video of Dr. McNair’s inaugural presentation is available in the members’ area of this website. Julie Hutchinson (assisted by Connie Hutchinson, see the photo of Julie above by the 2006 conference information) delivered the motivating closing keynote presentation.
